Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is a painful rash caused by reactivation of the chickenpox virus. The Shingrix® vaccine helps protect adults from shingles and its long-term nerve pain with over 90% effectiveness. It is recommended for adults 50 years and older, or 18 years and older with weakened immune systems, and is given in two doses 2–6 months apart.
