Dry eye disease occurs when the eyes don't make enough tears or the tears evaporate too fast, leaving the eye surface poorly lubricated. This causes dryness, grittiness, irritation, and discomfort. It's often triggered by screen use, aging, dry or windy air, contact lenses, and some medications.
